Rockstar Games has announced that Red Dead Redemption will be released digitally for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 (PS5 compatible) on August 17. With this reissue, which will include the Undead Nightmare downloadable content, this acclaimed adventure set in the Wild West will come to a Nintendo system for the first time.
Although an imminent announcement related to the Red Dead Redemption series had been rumored for days -it was included in the South Korean game classification body-, it was not until just a few minutes ago that the American publisher has released the news of this reissue.
Some expected a much more ambitious remastering of this title originally published in 2010, but finally it will be a conversion that will adapt the same game to current consoles.
As can be seen in the first trailer of this reissue, the differences with respect to the original version of the game published on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are barely appreciable beyond the higher image resolution. In fact, the fact that this reissue has not been announced for Xbox One or Xbox Series may be due to the fact that the Xbox 360 version is not only backward compatible with them, but can also be played at native 4K.
Rockstar Games has detailed that the team responsible for this conversion has been the British studio Double Eleven, who have also worked on the console version of Rust, Minecraft Dungeons or Fallout 76.
Despite being the reissue of a game published more than a decade ago and that does not present too many new features, Rockstar Games has announced that the sale price will be $49.99 on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation. Also, those who want to get the physical edition will have to wait, since it will not arrive in stores until October 13.
