Wembanyama signs his first double-double and Doncic heads to 49 points

The 49 points endorsed by the Slovenian Luka Doncic to the Brooklyn Nets, the first double double by the Frenchman Victor Wembanyama in the victory of the San Antonio Spurs and the victory of the Boston Celtics against the Miami Heat, in the reissue of the Eastern finals from last year, marked the NBA day this Friday.

After debuting last Wednesday with fifteen points in the San Antonio Spurs' defeat against the Dallas Mavericks, Frenchman Victor Wembanyama sealed this Friday the first double-double and his first victory in the NBA, in his team's hard-fought 126-122 victory against the Houston Rockets.

Wembanyama, the Spurs' first overall pick in the last draft, had 21 points, twelve rebounds, one assist, two steals and three blocks for the Spurs in 31 minutes on the court. The 19-year-old Frenchman connected on seven of his 19 field goals, although he missed the triple, going 0 for 6 from the arc.

He had already shown character on Wednesday in the loss against the Dallas Mavericks, when he scored nine of his fifteen points in the fourth quarter. Against the Rockets, Wembanyama scored the 111-111 basket that forced overtime, after also showing off his defensive power with two consecutive blocks.

He had five points, with two of ten shooting in the first half, and eight after three quarters. But he signed nine in the last period and four in overtime.

The Spurs' leading scorer was Devin Vassell, with 25 points. For the Rockets, Alperen Sengun had a double double of 25 points and fourteen rebounds. Fred VanVleet contributed 24 points and twelve assists, with eight rebounds.

The Mavericks want revenge this year after being left out of the postseason last year and the start was brilliant, with two wins out of two and an intractable Doncic.

The Slovenian had achieved 33 points, twelve rebounds and ten assists in the victory against the Wembanyama Spurs and this Friday he destroyed the Nets with 49 points, ten rebounds and seven assists. His numbers against the Nets were amazing. He connected on 16 of his 25 field goals (64%) and made nine three-pointers. The Mavericks' second-best scorer was Tim Hardaway, with 19 points.
