Todd Frazier, Brett Lawrie out with injuries as White Sox open spring play

Third baseman Todd Frazier was out of the starting lineup for the White Sox Cactus League opener against the Dodgers on Saturday at Camelback Ranch as he continues to cover from a left oblique strain.

Matt Davidson, who is expected to vie for a spot as a backup third baseman and designated hitter, starts in his place, batting cleanup.

Second baseman Brett Lawrie also sat out because his left leg, which put him on the disabled list for the final two months of the 2016 season, “didn’t feel quite right,” manager Rick Renteria said.

Center-field prospect Charlie Tilson also was out as he recovers from a stress reaction in his right foot. Tilson said he’s “moving in the right direction.” He is continuing to rehab his surgically repaired left hamstring, jogging on an aqua treadmill and expects to start swinging again soon.

“I should be swinging it again in the next few days to a week or so depending on how things go,” Tilson said. “But I’m close for sure.”

Peter Bourjos starts in center field in place of Tilson. Sox right-hander Carson Fulmer takes on Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw.

Here’s the Sox lineup:

Tim Anderson, SS

Melky Cabrera, DH

Jose Abreu, 1B

Matt Davidson, 3B

Avisail Garcia, RF

Geovany Soto, C

Carlos Sanchez, 2B

Rymer Liriano, LF

Peter Bourjos, CF
