Pol Espargaró suffered a serious accident on Friday during free practice for the Portuguese Grand Prix, which forced his evacuation by means of a medicalized helicopter to the hospital in Faro.
The driver from Granollers, currently with GasGas, suffered a fractured jaw, one in the dorsal vertebra and another in the neck, as well as a severe pulmonary contusion. All this will keep the youngest of the Espargaró away from the slopes for a long period of time. That same Sunday he was transferred to Barcelona and was admitted to the Quirón Dexeus Clinic to undergo surgery on his jaw.
Messages of encouragement from the paddock proliferated, although the most special was the one dedicated to him by his brother Aleix through social networks. The text was accompanied by an affectionate image in which Aleix holds Pol's hand, intubated and lying on a hospital stretcher.
In Portimão, the Aprilia rider, ninth in Sunday's race, was touched after the accident Pol had in a hill change. "The poor guy is not having a very good time. I have seen him very excited throughout the winter with the change and he did not deserve it."
