Manchester City registered its name for the first time tonight among the winners of the Champions League or before the European Cup. Until now, the greatest achievement of the 'skyblues' was the runner-up, losing the final played in Porto against Chelsea in 2022. With their defeat, Inter remains in the three titles they already had, which they won in 1964 and 1965 with Luis Suárez as a star and the one from 2010, at the Bernabéu, with Mourinho as coach with a victory over Bayern.
At the head of the ranking of titles won is Real Madrid, which has won fourteen. The whites prevailed in the first five editions of the European Cup (1955-1960), led by Alfredo Di Stéfano. After winning the sixth with the yéyé team (1966) they had to wait 32 years to win the seventh, in 1982, against Juventus in Amsterdam. They repeated the title in 2000, in Paris, against Valencia and in Glasgow (2002) against Bayer Leverkusen, the first for Florentino Pérez.
It would take Madrid another twelve years to win, but then they would chain five in a row, the first four with Cristiano as the main figure: 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2022.
AC Milan is next in the ranking, with seven gimped from a brand team of Arrigo Sacchi and Fabio Capello, with stars like Maldini, Baresi and the three tulips: Van Basten, Gullit and Rijkaard. AC Milan won its last five orejonas in the 1989, 1990, 1994, 2003 and 2007 editions, the last two with Ancelotti on the bench, who had already won two as a player.
Liverpool and Bayern are the next in the list of winners, with six titles each. Bayern won their first three in a row, from 1974 to 1977, a team with a great figure Franz Beckenbauer. Liverpool had its greatest moment of glory from 1976 to 1984, when it added four victories in a row, one of them the final in the field of the rival team, Roma in 1984, something that no other club has achieved.
It is followed in the ranking by Barcelona, with five trophies. The Catalans, after losing three finals, won the first at Wembley against Sampdoria (1992) with Johan Cruyff's so-called 'dream team'. Then came the win against Arsenal in 2006 with Rijkaard on the bench. The next two came with Pep Guardiola as coach and Messi as a great figure, both won against Manchester United in 2006 and 2009. The fifth is already with Luis Enrique on the bench and against Juventus in 2015.
After Barcelona, the next in the list of winners are Ajax, with four titles (three in a row with Johan Cruyff as a player), and Manchester United and Inter Milan, with three each.
