Hamilton's joke to Alonso for his departure: "His reaction is somewhat slow, they are things of age"

The Englishman Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), seven times Formula One world champion, who finished third in the Canadian Grand Prix, the eighth of the World Cup, said this Sunday at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit in Montreal that it was "a great weekend". and that "to be on the podium again is fantastic".

"It's been a great weekend. To have this consistency and to be on the podium again here is fantastic. It's a great honor to be on the podium with two other world champions," said Hamilton, who has achieved six of his 103 victories ( historical record) in Formula One on this track-, in reference to the Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull) -outstanding leader of the World Cup- and the Spanish Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) who finished first and second, respectively, this Sunday.

The British joked with Alonso while he was speaking to the media. When he knew that the Spaniard was listening to him, he blurted out that "his reaction was a bit slow, it's things of age," he said with a laugh, with the Aston Martin next to him.

Fernando Alonso accepted the joke with great sportsmanship and told Hamilton, also between laughs, that they saw each other in the next race: "Austria, two weeks." They both burst out laughing and the joke ended with a pat from the Spaniard on the British man's back.

"We did not have enough pace to aspire to more. We knew that this was not going to be our best circuit, however, since we have problems with the slow corners, in particular," added the champion from Stevenage, who is fourth in the World Championship, with 102 points, 93 less than Verstappen.

"We still have a lot of work to do, to achieve better performance and more efficiency," said Hamilton, 38, who also holds the all-time record for pole positions in the premier class: also 103.

"However, little by little we are taking away those in front of us. I think that at some point we will get there; we are going on the right path," Hamilton said this Sunday in Montreal.
