Giants defensive back Ryan out of Bucs’ game with COVID-19

EAST RUTHERFORD (N.J.) -- New York Giants' leading tackler Logan Ryan will be absent Monday night's game against Tampa Bay Buccaneers due to COVID-19.

Ryan was ruled out by the Giants (3-6) on Saturday, along with Lorenzo Carter (ankle/illness), wide receiver Sterling Shepard (4quad) as well as Nate Ebner (knee).

Ryan shared with the team that he was in close contact to a person who had the disease. He was tested immediately and received a negative result. He was again tested on Friday, and the results were positive. He was placed on the COVID-19 reserve list.

Joe Judge didn't specify Saturday whether Saquon Barkley, running back, or left tackle Andrew Thomas would be playing against the Bucs (6-3). Barkley was limited in practice this week and missed four of the previous games due to a sprained ankle.

After a time on injured reserve, Thomas was able to return to practice this week. Judge stated that Thomas has made significant progress as a second-year player.

The Giants also listed Devontae Booker, fullback Cullen Gillaspia and Kaden Smith, tight end (knee), as questionable for the game.
