France defeats Namibia 96-0 and fuels the debate: too many teams in the World Cup?

The French team, host of the tournament, achieved its third victory this Thursday in the Rugby World Cup, of which it is the host, by mercilessly overwhelming the weak Namibia 96-0 with fourteen tries, at the Stade Vélodrome from Marseille.

The XV del Gallo was totally superior to the Namibian team, which they already dominated at half-time 54-0 with up to eight tries due to the weakness of the rival defense. They were the work of Damian Penaud (2), Jonathan Danty (2), Charles Ollivon, Thibaud Flament, Antoine Dupont, who had to leave the duel in the second half somewhat shaken after a strong blow; and Louis Bielle-Biarrey. Seven of them transformed by Thomas Ramos.

In the second half the panorama hardly changed, despite the numerous changes introduced by the French coach, Fabien Galthié. In addition, the Namibian Johan Deysel was expelled to leave his team even more weakened.

Thus came six more tries, from Couilloud, Penaud, Bielle-Biarrey, Ollivon, a Melvyn Jamonet who joined the party four minutes from the end, and one more, this one a punishment, in the 80th. This time without errors in the conversions that Ramos attempted.

This Thursday is not the heaviest defeat suffered by Namibia in an official match. They already lost in 2003 against Australia 142-0 with 22 tries from the Wallabies.
