Espanyol and the battle against logic

The margin is running out for Espanyol, each day closer to a reality that for the moment refuses to assume. For weeks now, only a victory that never comes could extend a halo of life in the First Division that is becoming more and more exiguous. The hiring of Luis García redeemed the entity for a while, but after the defeat with deep social consequences against Barça in the derby, it seems completely adrift. While the coach tries to raise a sinking ship, from outside the club he tries to get Chen Yansheng, owner of the entity, to react so that he leaves, especially in the event of relegation.

Although the reaction is not impossible, judging by the numbers in the last two months it is highly unlikely. Everything is against Luis García's team, sunk in relegation with 31 points in 34 games and that has added only 4 of the last 33 points. Nine defeats in eleven games and 26 goals conceded are the slab that weighs on the backs of this Espanyol, with almost non-existent pulsations.

The week has been turbulent in the institutional. Extraordinary file of the Competition Committee to the club and complaint in a court by LaLiga against the fans who invaded the field. In the offices they do not think of anything other than to shelve the matter with a broad brush. In the locker room, discouragement has permeated deeply among a sector, although Luis García does not give up in trying to lift up his men with an optimistic speech. “In my nature there is no abandonment or letting go. Permanence is possible although the situation is increasingly complicated, ”he conceded.

And he defends that the conviction continues to be total among his players: “Of course it is. Everything changes a result and we are on time. The dressing room works very hard and very hard”.

The umpteenth hope lies in Vallecas, where they face a Rayo who looks to Europe thanks to their great results at home (they have won their last three games and have only lost one of the last eight). And with them, an old villain for parrots: Raúl de Tomás. The man from Madrid is considered a traitor for his departure from the club last summer. Today he could deal the final blow to the project that he himself saw born with the promotion two seasons ago.
