Three consecutive losses have left Diego Martínez at forward. The untouchable aura that he wore until now has been seriously damaged. Ranks are closing from Espanyol. In the club they assure that there is no discussion about the continuity of the Galician. And that same speech was joined by Sergi Darder, team captain, at a press conference. The one from Artà appealed to the union of the team and shunned excuses from the past. "We are concerned about the future of the club," he explained.
He chose the club that was Darder and not another that tried to raise the morale of the entity. With the coach pointed out for the bad results and the poor game, the captain is one of the few who keep his credibility intact. “We are aware that the situation is complicated, but we are well within what is possible. We have to accept that the situation is difficult and that we have earned to be where we are in the standings”, he assured.
Darder delivered a realistic but optimistic speech. He appealed to the unity of the group and the intention to row in the same direction, although he also acknowledged mistakes. “We are self-critical and we do not hide by saying that we are unlucky. At the beginning of the season, yes, there were situations of bad luck. Now, we are in matchday 26 and we have to admit that we have done things wrong”.
The last hours have been especially difficult for Diego Martínez. After months of bitterly complaining about bad luck and the meager squad he had, his team still doesn't show signs of improvement. “Diego Martínez is capable of reversing the situation. He wouldn't say that if he didn't see a team that is aware of the situation he is in and doesn't know what to do to win games. We have shown during this course that we can offer a good level”, he said with conviction.
“If you ratify someone, it is because you have doubts in him and we trust Diego Martínez. A ratification would not make sense because the coach has not been in danger. It is logical that we all have criticism because the situation is not good, but the first ones who demand ourselves are us, ”he explained.
Darder surprised by assuring that he may have to shine less to score more points. “We have conceded many goals and we have not been strong at home. If I have to do less football, I will have to do it. We must prioritize the collective aspect and make everyone the same party. If at some point in the game we have to do less showy things, we all have to assume it. I have no doubt that we will move the situation forward, ”he noted.
Finally, he said he was convinced that the last descent is what causes the fans to be much more concerned. “We all carry the backpack from the last descent. If that doesn't happen, people won't be so afraid. For my part, I am calmer, although I am aware of reality, ”he concluded.
