Chicago Cubs pitchers teamed up for the seventh no-hitter in the 2021 Major League Baseball Season on Thursday night.
Zach Davies, Ryan Tepera and Andrew Chafin recorded the no-hitter against Los Angeles Dodgers. Chicago won the game 4-1.
Davies was the first to start the game. He lasted six innings, struck out four, and walked five. Tepera replaced him after he threw 94 pitches.
Each hitter was one for Tepera, Chafin, and Kimbrel. Kimbrel struck out all four of the batters he faced. The other he walked. He walked the other.
Davies stated that "I believe every pitcher wants the game to continue, regardless of their pitch count," Craig, Tep, and Chafe shut down the door. It's a part of history. It was a great experience for all the men who were there. "I can't complain."
Chafin stated that the bullpen didn't know the team was pitching no-hitters.
"The entire bullpen didn't know what it was doing. It was totally unaware. We can only see the count and batting averages from the bullpen. Chafin stated that the scoreboard is not visible with the hits.
Javy Baez, a Dodgers pitcher, gave the Cubs a game-opening solo homer. Buehler was able to score Wilson Contreras with a two-run homer in the sixth.
Jake Marisnick was the other RBI.
Seven no-hitters are the most MLB history prior to July 1. It tied the record for most no-hitters in a single season, 1900. One shy of the record 8 in 1884, when overhand pitching was first allowed, it is still one shy.
