Belgian Nathan Van Hooydonck is awake and does not suffer serious injuries

Belgian cyclist Nathan Van Hooydonck (Jumbo-Visma) is in good condition after having suffered an accident while driving a car. Although his team initially reported that his condition was serious, today he ruled out any major injuries and announced that he is awake.

"Nathan Van Hooydonck is awake and does not suffer any injuries due to today's traffic accident. His health situation is not critical. Further medical examinations will be carried out to determine why Nathan felt unwell while driving his car. We would like to thank everyone for the messages and the hospital's medical staff for taking such good care of Nathan and his family," his team said on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

The vehicle of the 27-year-old cyclist was involved in an accident in which five cars were affected this morning around 8:30 a.m. in the town of Kalmthout (north).

According to the newspaper Nieuwsblad, the cyclist fainted which led him to hold down the accelerator at a traffic light.

Van Hooydonck was resuscitated at the scene and taken to the hospital, where he was accompanied by his wife, who is pregnant and was a passenger in the vehicle but was not injured.
