Pottsville 48, Bangor 35 — Rapid Recap
The Bangor boys basketball team’s dominant run came to an end Monday night in the District 11 Class 5A semifinals, falling to Pottsville 48-35 at Pleasant Valley High School.

Turning point: The top-seeded Slaters led 20-19 at the half but the No. 4 Crimson Tide came out firing in the third quarter as it turned to its 6-foot-7 junior Ian Renninger. The big man scored 11 of his team’s 15 points in the quarter while it held Bangor to just five points to take a nine-point lead heading into the fourth.

The Slaters made a push to cut the lead to 38-33 with 3:13 left in the game, but Pottsville went 8-for-8 from the foul line the rest of the way to sustain its lead.

Top performer: Senior guard Jordan Abdo led the Crimson Tide with 16 points while Renninger added 15 — 13 in the second half.

Senior forward Dylan Benton kept Bangor in it late, scoring 12 of his team’s 15 points in the second half as he finished with a game-high 19 points.

What it means: Pottsville advances to Thursday’s championship to take on No. 6 East Stroudsburg North while clinching a spot in the state tournament in the process.

With District 11 Class 5A only getting two bids to the PIAA playoffs — as opposed to the four each in 6A and 4A — the Slaters finished their season at 23-2.
