The expected rain arrives in Spain. As of this Thursday, a change in the generalized atmospheric pattern is expected with showers, especially in the east, south of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, and temperatures below normal for this time of year, especially in the north, according to the forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
It is about "a change in trend" for the second half of this week, according to what Rubén del Campo has advanced. However, these showers will not alleviate the severe drought in our country, because "it is not a situation of widespread or persistent rain, but rather of local and occasional rainfall."
For this Thursday, cloudy skies are expected in the southeastern third of the peninsula, with showers and storms. There is also the possibility of some weak precipitation in the extreme north of the peninsula and the rest of the Mediterranean area. The instability will continue on Friday, when scattered and occasional showers and storms will be likely in large areas of the eastern and southern peninsular thirds and in the Balearic Islands.
This situation will last until the weekend, in which it seems that "instability will continue." Those days are expected to increase cloudiness and instability with a probability of rainfall above 50% for Saturday, and 75% for Sunday.
Starting next week, the last full week of May, it is possible that the unstable environment will persist with showers that could affect large areas of the peninsula, again to the south and east and the Balearic Islands.
The showers will be accompanied by a significant thermal drop, with temperatures below normal for this time of year, especially in the north. In the city of Madrid, this generalized thermal drop will be noticeable with maximum temperatures that during Thursday and Friday will oscillate between 19 and 20 degrees, and with minimums that will barely exceed 9 degrees.
These rains will not be enough to alleviate the serious drought that our country is suffering. Rubén Del Campo explained that the showers forecast for this week, as well as the possibility of them occurring next week, in addition to a somewhat cooler environment than normal, are "completely normal situations for the month of May, nothing extraordinary" .
These rains will not end the drought by any means, but at least they will not increase the rainfall deficit, says the Aemet spokesman.
Another month, it barely rains in our country. According to data from the agency, despite the persistent rains in the Bay of Biscay and the intense showers in parts of the eastern peninsula in recent days, the first half of May has been very dry in Spain. Only 9 l/m² have accumulated, 62% less than normal for that period.
