The first heat wave of summer does not let up. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) keeps eight communities on alert this Monday (Aragon, both Castillas, Catalonia, Extremadura, Madrid, the Valencian Community and Andalusia), due to high temperatures. The worst will be in the latter, where there is a red warning (extreme risk) for highs that will reach up to 44 degrees.
In Andalusia, there is a red alert in the Cordoba and Seville countryside with values that will rise to 44 degrees, in a time slot between 1:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., the agency reports. In Cádiz, Granada and Huelva there is an orange level (risk) for maximums between 39-43 degrees.
Extremadura also has an orange notice throughout the community for daytime values between 39-42 degrees, at a time between 1:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. The minimum will reach 22 degrees, a problem to fall asleep.
The Community of Madrid will also be affected by the suffocating heat with values that will reach 40 degrees in the south, Las Vegas and the west; In the metropolitan area and Henares, up to 39 degrees are expected and in areas of the mountains it will reach 37 degrees in locations below 1,000 meters.
The heat will be accompanied by storms and rain in Aragon, both Castillas, Catalonia and in the Valencian Community, where Aemet has activated the yellow notice. There, the maximum will oscillate between 34-39 degrees.
For the rest of the country, the agency anticipates decreasing maximum temperatures in the northern and eastern peninsular thirds, being notable in the northeast of the North plateau, and with few changes or a slight increase in the rest; in inland areas of the Canary Islands the rise may be notable.
Regarding the minimums, they will decrease in the northwestern half of the peninsula and increase in the rest. They will be around 20 degrees on the Mediterranean coasts and the southwest quadrant.
As a consequence of the intense heat of the next few days, Aemet recommends carefully following the indications of the National Plan of Preventive Actions of the effects of excess temperatures on health of the Ministry of Health. Among other measures, it is recommended to stay in cool places, avoid exposure in the central hours of the day, wear light clothing and frequent water intake.
