The cold is pressing in Spain: the Aemet warns of minimum temperatures below 0 degrees

Stable weather, wind and very cold. This is the forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), which predicts that this Thursday more intense frosts will be recorded in mountain areas and minimum temperatures below 0 degrees in Teruel (-3) and Cuenca (-1). In other provinces such as Albacete, Ávila or Huesca, the minimum temperatures will remain between 0 and 1 degrees.

In fact, Aemet expects a general decrease in minimum temperatures today, with frosts in the mountains that will extend to surrounding areas, more intense in the Pyrenees. On the other hand, the maximums will increase in the northern half, markedly in the mountains, and will decrease in the peninsular Mediterranean area and the Canary Islands.

In the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, an anticyclonic situation is expected to prevail, with a predominance of slightly cloudy skies in most areas. However, there will be cloudy skies or with intervals in the Cantabrian Sea, upper Ebro and northern Iberian Sea, with the possibility of weak, scattered and occasional rainfall in the eastern Cantabrian Sea, tending to subside.

Winds from the north will blow in the northeast of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, strong or with strong intervals in the Pyrenees, Ampurdán and the Balearic Islands. Eight provinces in the north and east of the country will be at risk from winds of up to 80 kilometers per hour and risk or significant risk from waves up to 10 meters high.

Specifically, they will have a significant risk (orange warning) due to north and northwest winds of 60 to 75 kilometers per hour (force 8) with waves of 4 to 5 meters of significant height and waves of up to 8 meters in Girona; and force 7 to 8 with maximum waves of up to 9 or 11 meters in Mallorca and Menorca. Furthermore, in the rest of the Balearic Islands, in Tarragona and A Coruña, they will have a yellow warning for force 7 winds (up to 60 kilometers per hour) and waves of 3 to 4 meters.

During the next few days, the cold will intensify in almost the entire country due to the arrival of continental winds from northern Europe, generally drier, which will blow strongly especially in the north of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, anticipates the Aemet spokesperson. , Rubén Del Campo.
