The Aemet warns that the Ciarán storm will undergo a process of “explosive cyclogenesis”

As in recent weeks, in the coming days successive storms of Atlantic origin will continue to reach the Peninsula, mainly affecting the northwest quadrant of the peninsula. The next one will be the storm Ciarán, much deeper and with high impact, which will affect the entire Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, leaving widespread rainfall, in addition to bringing very intense winds, warns the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

The Ciarán storm will undergo a process of explosive cyclogenesis, that is, it will “deepen rapidly in a short time.” “The atmospheric pressure in its center will drop more than 24 hectopascals in less than 24 hours and that will make it a very deep storm, with very strong winds, sea storms and abundant rainfall,” explains the agency.

This new storm will arrive late on Wednesday, but will be felt especially on Thursday. It will begin by entering the northwest of the peninsula, where it is expected to leave heavy showers occasionally accompanied by storms in Galicia, the Cantabrian area and the western Pyrenees. The rainfall would spread throughout the day to the rest of the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, although with less intensity. The southeast of the peninsula will be the area least affected by rainfall.

Storm Ciarán will bring with it a colder air mass. “The snow level will drop sharply, reaching between 1000 and 1200 m in the northern half of the peninsula, so in the mountain systems we can expect the first significant snowfalls of the season,” Aemet predicts in an informative note.

For Thursday, the most significant phenomenon will be the wind, with very strong gusts widespread in the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, being especially intense in mountain areas and in the Cantabrian area, where speeds may exceed 100 km/h. A strong maritime storm is also expected this day, especially in the Cantabrian Sea, although it will also affect the Mediterranean.

At the expense of the arrival of the storm Ciarán, for this Tuesday the agency expects strong winds to blow on the coast of Galicia, in addition to locally heavy rainfall in the west of that community. In the rest of the country, medium and high cloudiness will increase in the southwest. Minimum temperatures will tend to increase in the extreme northwest of the peninsula; The maximums will increase in the extreme northwest.

For All Saints' Day, the entry of a new front is expected to enter Galicia, with cloudiness and precipitation extending towards the southeast. They will also affect, weaker and more dispersed, the rest of the northwest half of the peninsula. At the end of the day a second front will enter, associated with the storm Ciarán. Regarding temperatures, maximum temperatures are rising in the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, although they tend to decrease in the northern third.
