The Aemet activates the orange warning due to strong winds in these communities

A new front will cover the Peninsula and in its wake will leave rainfall that will spread from west to east and strong gusts of wind on the coasts and much of the northern half, according to the forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

The wind will blow from the west and south in most of the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands; It will be generally weak in the southwest of the peninsula and extreme northeast and more intense in much of the northern half and on the coasts, reaching strength in those of Galicia, the Cantabrian Sea, Empordà and the Balearic Islands.

The agency has activated the yellow warning for coastal phenomena in the Basque Country, Cantabria, Galicia and Asturias. In these last three, it will be increased to orange alert at the end of the day due to strong gusts of wind and waves between 5 and 7 meters high.

The rainfall will affect the northwest half of the peninsula at the beginning of the day, but will spread from west to east and will end up affecting areas of the northeast and north of the Balearic Islands. They will be more abundant in mountainous systems and in the eastern Cantabrian Sea, with the probability that they will occur weakly in the rest of the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, to a lesser extent the further south-east.

In its forecast, Aemet speaks of probable morning fog banks in the main mountain systems of the center and north of the peninsula, which in the afternoon could extend to the mountain systems of the south.

Regarding temperatures, maximum temperatures will decrease in the Cantabrian area and increase in the rest, more markedly in the southeastern half. On the other hand, the minimum temperatures will increase generally and sharply, except in the northwest of Galicia where they will decrease.

Frosts are expected in the Pyrenees, without ruling out locally and weak frosts in other mountain areas. And the snow level will be above 2,200 meters, dropping to 1,500-1,700 meters in the Pyrenees and the Cantabrian Sea.
