The Aemet activates the maximum red alert levels due to the storm 'Domingos' after the damage from 'Ciarán'

The arrival of Storm Domingos in Spain this Saturday, November 4, has caused the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) to activate the maximum levels of red alert, especially after the recent damage caused by Storm Ciarán. This new atmospheric phenomenon, according to Aemet forecasts, will be much worse than its predecessor, bringing with it hurricane-force winds and a strong sea storm, especially in the northwest quadrant of the peninsula.

Faced with this adverse meteorological scenario, the Aemet has issued a special notice with precautionary recommendations for the population, suggesting a weekend of shelter at home to avoid exposure to the inclement weather that is coming. Without going any further, Ciarán has left 16 dead in Europe.

The recently named Storm Domingos has similar characteristics to Ciarán but with greater intensity. The forecasts indicate that the most significant phenomena will be rainfall, very strong wind and sea storms, these being more notable in areas of the Galician and Asturian coast, as well as in the mountain systems and plateau areas. For this reason, red alerts have been activated in numerous parts of Galicia and Asturias.

The Aemet warns that the waves on the coast of Galicia could reach and even exceed 8-10 meters in height, with gusts of wind that will extend during the afternoon to points in the interior of the eastern peninsula. Precipitation will be more important in Galicia, although it is not expected to reach the Mediterranean coast.

With the arrival of Sunday, the northern areas will be the most affected, especially the Galician coast, where waves of up to 14 meters high may occur in the coming days. In addition, intense gusts of wind are expected in the center and east of the peninsula, mainly in coastal and mountain areas. Precipitation is also expected in the Aragonese Pyrenees and the Cantabrian Mountains, with snow levels that could drop to 1,400 meters.

Despite a slight rise in temperatures in cities such as Barcelona, Murcia and Madrid, Aemet has announced a drop in temperatures starting Sunday in most of the country, with possible first night frosts in high mountain locations. This thermal drop, typical of this time of year, is expected to persist during the week, marking the beginning of the month of November with adverse weather conditions and temperatures typical of the season.
