Get your binoculars out and set your alarm.
Five planets, aEUR", Mercury, Venus Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and Venus aEUR", will be visible at dawn for the first time since 18 years.
NPR's Diana Hannikainen, Sky & Telescope’s Observing Editor, stated that anyone who is able to watch from the United States can catch a glimpse, provided they wake up early enough.
Hannikainen stated that the five-planet alignment was not "extremely rare". Hannikainen said that these planets were last aligned in a sequential order in 2004. It is expected to occur again in 2040.
Hannikainen stated, "But it is rare enough that we get the chance to step outside in morning and inspect it out. It's worth it."
She said that Mercury will become more visible as June progresses. The view will be especially special on June 24. On that day, viewers will also be able see the waning crescent Moon between Venus and Mars.
Hannikainen advises that you should be there at least 30 minutes before sunrise if you wish to have a look. A spot that has a clear view towards the east is ideal for most people. She also mentions that binoculars are essential.
She says, "Don't let it get you down if Mercury doesn't appear early." "Some people may be able to catch five planets early in the month. But don't be discouraged. It is already a stunning, beautiful sight to see four planets.
