Calima and mud rains, a new DANA approaches the Peninsula for carnival

The weather will remain generally stable in Spain as a whole and temperatures will continue to rise in the coming days until reaching values above normal for these dates, but with the exception of the Canary Islands and the south and southeast of the peninsula where they are expected showers, as reported by the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).

The AEMET spokesman, Rubén del Campo, has indicated that the presence of a DANA between the Canary Islands and the Peninsula will cause an increase in the probability of showers in the archipelago and does not rule out that the weekend could extend to other parts of the southeast peninsular, although in that case they will be weak and scattered.

In addition, he pointed out that DANA, from its position, will inject wind from North Africa, which transports dust in suspension to the Peninsula, so the haze will be felt in the coming days in the south of the Peninsula, in Ceuta and Melilla. .

Meanwhile, temperatures will continue to rise slowly and the most notable rise will be during the day, although frost will continue to be recorded in northern and central parts of the peninsula until Friday.

On Saturday the frosts will lose ground "clearly" and in the central hours of the day it will reach 20 degrees Celsius (ºC), not only in the south of the Peninsula but also on the shores of the Cantabrian Sea. Del Campo indicates that the thermometers in some cases will reach values between 5 and 10ºC above the average for the time.

Specifically, on Thursday the prediction indicates that the Canary Islands will be affected by the DANA (Isolated Depression at High Levels of the atmosphere) that will cause more unstable weather there, with rain and showers spread throughout the archipelago and especially in Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and on the islands of greater relief, although the spokesperson does not rule out that these showers may occasionally be accompanied by storms.

In addition, in the summits of the Canary Islands the winds will blow with "a lot of force" and it can snow above 1,600 to 1,800 meters.

On the Peninsula, the DANA that affects the Canary Islands will continue to inject suspended dust that gives rise to haze and a reduction in visibility in the south, where the skies will be cloudy and with worse air quality.

In the rest of the country, slightly cloudy skies are expected, with clouds in the Mediterranean area and with some light rain in isolated points of the Levante, in the Strait and in the autonomous city of Melilla.

Regarding temperatures, Del Campo hopes that the night temperatures will drop a bit and that frosts will return to the interior of the northern half and the central area, while temperatures will rise slightly and exceed 18ºC on the shores of the Cantabrian Sea and 20ºC in the Guadiana and Guadalquivir valleys. In many parts of the territory it will exceed 15ºC. In fact, he warns about the risk of fires in the Cantabrian Sea, where in addition to those almost spring temperatures, winds from the south will arrive.

Looking ahead to Friday, the spokesman does not expect major changes, although he points out that DANA will move "somewhat" away from the archipelago so that rains can still be recorded in the Canary Islands but they will be less widespread and abundant than the previous days.

In the Peninsula the clouds will increase in the south and, although rain is not expected, there will be dust in suspension, so the most prominent phenomenon will be the haze in the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla and in and in the southern half of the Peninsula.

Temperatures will rise slightly on Friday but again there will be frost in the north and center of the Peninsula, although in the central hours of the day it will exceed 15ºC in most of the territory; 18ºC in the Cantabrian Sea and 20ºC in the Guadalquivir valley.

In general, the spokesperson places these values between 5 and 10 degrees above normal for the time, in a good part of the northern third of the peninsula and in Andalusia, while the minimum temperatures will remain at their normal values.

For the weekend, it predicts that the DANA will get a little closer to the Gulf of Cádiz, which will cause cloudiness to increase in the southern half and some scattered and occasional showers could be recorded, especially in areas of the west, Andalusia and around the Strait. on the Saturday day.

As for Sunday, he anticipates that the showers could also spread to other areas of the western third while in the Canary Islands the trade wind regime typical of the archipelago's climate will gradually be imposed: with clouds and drizzle in the north of the most mountainous islands .

The haze will continue to cover the south of the Peninsula over the weekend, days in which it could spread to other areas of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands.

Thermometers will continue to rise over the weekend in general, but there is some uncertainty about the evolution of temperatures given the cloudiness and instability that DANA can cause. In any case, Del Campo sees it as "probable" that frosts will be restricted to isolated mountain areas and to areas of the plateau and moors.

Again in the central hours of the day it will exceed 18 or 20ºC in the Bay of Biscay and in a good part of the center, south and Mediterranean area including the Balearic Islands.
