The Valents candidate for mayor of Barcelona, Eva Parera, has presented this Monday, in the gardens of the Tres Xemeneies de Poble Sec, her proposals in terms of civility, which propose the renewal of the coexistence ordinance to put an end to the neighborhood problems in public space.

The mayor will seek consensus with the rest of the political forces of the Barcelona City Council to stop the large bottles and the “scourge” of the graffiti on walls and blinds that she sees in the city and will create a specific municipal department to control the collection of fines , since, as indicated by Parera, now only 37% of the infractions are paid.

In this sense, the Valents candidate is in favor of increasing the amount of sanctions against uncivil graffiti artists, especially those she has called “multi-reoffenders”: “The regulations we have are from the end of 2005, they are applied little and when they are it does not work. There is a general non-compliance with the norm”, stated Parera.

“There are graffiti everywhere. Never in Barcelona have there been so many stained walls and street furniture as now, even in monuments and heritage buildings such as the cathedral or the church of Pi. A strong hand and exemplary sanctions are needed to discourage this practice. We have to eradicate this scourge of Barcelona”, stated the mayor.

Among the most serious problems of coexistence, Valents places, in addition to large bottles and graffiti, drug use in the street: “There are many neighborhood complaints and the parties must be able to reach an agreement to put an end to these situations”, Parera has prescribed.

In addition, Valents focuses on other practices, such as illegal street sales or the promotion of cannabis clubs on public roads, but also points out the scrap collectors who are looking inside the containers or those who offer themselves at traffic lights. to clean car windshields.

Likewise, Parera’s party charges against parties without permission, which cause noise and inconvenience the neighbors, and which are held, according to Valents’ complaint, in public spaces such as Can Vies, in the Sants neighborhood, or the so-called Gulf Triangle, in Poblenou.

“The neglect that exists now and the absence of coercive measures increase the feeling of impunity for the uncivil and wears down the authority of the agents who apply them,” Parera stressed to defend an increase in sanctions, which, in the event of insolvency of Violators should entail, in Valents’ opinion, criminal sentences and the obligation to carry out work for the benefit of the community.

On the other hand, Parera considers it essential to recover the principle of authority of the Urban Police, increasing the number of patrols and providing the agents with the necessary material resources to do their job, while proposing campaigns so that both the people of Barcelona and the visitors and tourists take care of the public space, for which it proposes the creation of “a program of values and civic coexistence that promotes respect and harmony”.

“We will face the problem of incivility from the point of view of security, but also from education and public health, with a special impact on large bottles and drug use on public roads”, concluded the leader of Valents.
