The Social Welfare, Education, Culture and Sports Commission of the Valencia City Council has voted today on the proposal for Honors and Distinctions that the Plenary Session of the City Council will recognize on October 6 in an extraordinary session held within the framework of the 9th festival. In this Plenary Session, as recognized by the Municipal Regulations on Honors and Distinctions, different people and entities linked to the city will be honored "for their valuable work and unique contributions to the city."

As municipal sources explain in a statement, the appointment as Honorary Mayor, posthumously, of Rita Barberá, has been decided "to take the city to levels of international relevance and urban well-being not known before or after her mandate".
