The PSC appeals to the TC for Lluís Puig's telematic vote

The PSC will appeal to the Constitutional Court the decision of the Parliamentary Bureau to exceptionally enable telematic voting for the Junts per Catalunya deputy Lluís Puig, who fled to Belgium from the Spanish justice system due to the 1-O referendum. This was announced by the spokesperson for the PSC-Units parliamentary group, Alícia Romero, at a press conference from the Catalan Chamber this Tuesday, where she has argued that "no one can be surprised" by her group's decision.

The Parliamentary Bureau agreed to exceptionally enable, at the initiative of ERC, telematic voting so that Puig could vote in the last plenary session, however, the Catalan Chamber did not have the system enabled that was put in place during the pandemic, so the Processing of the vote was done in a rudimentary way, by email from the deputy to the Bureau and the corresponding verification of his identity.

The provisional solution proposed by ERC, which has held the functions of the Presidency of the Table in the person of Alba Vergès since Laura Borràs was suspended almost a year ago, sought to resolve the situation while telematic voting was enabled again in the Parliament so that Puig can vote from now on. The solution responded to the ruling of the Constitutional Court itself - to which the PSC requested protection at the beginning of the legislature - which a few weeks ago annulled the delegated vote that to date allowed the Junts deputy to vote.

PSC, Cs and Vox submitted requests for reconsideration that the Parliament body rejected. The Socialists do not agree with this solution, since they consider that telematic voting is only allowed in exceptional cases, as happened during the pandemic, hence they appeal again to the High Court.

"We defend the institutions, always, and dignity. And we don't do it against anyone. We do it in favor of the institutions and the Parliament", the socialist spokesperson justified.

The question of the Parliament's regulations will have a place in the plenary session that begins this Tuesday with two proposals from the PSC-Units and another joint one from the ERC and the CUP. The socialist wants to reform the rules of the Chamber to introduce a kind of motion of confidence to which the members of the Parliamentary Board can submit. This initiative would allow the possible loss of confidence of one of the members of the Bureau to be put to a vote and strip him of his position, which would prevent the Borràs case from repeating itself.

For its part, the ERC and CUP proposal intends to introduce changes that allow telematic voting to be definitively installed in the Parliament and something very different, to prohibit racist speeches in the Catalan Chamber.
