The hour of the actor Eric Masip

It has been almost a decade since the name of Eric Masip (27) appears in the credits of Spanish films and series. First as a guest or secondary (Fugitiva, Amar es para siempre, Cuéntame, Caronte, Élite or Veneno), to move on to more weighty roles such as Alba, Madres or A través de mi ventana. But in his latest job, he has not acted as a performer but as a model in the Rabat jewelry store's Father's Day campaign. Because the actor is the son of Enric Masip, one of the best Spanish handball players of all time and currently advisor to the president of FC Barcelona.

In the Rabat campaign, Masip assures that he and his father are "ambitious, persevering and sensitive", and that the gift that can most excite his parent is a watch: "We are both passionate about them. I always wear one and during filming I ask that my character also wears one, because it says a lot about how he is", says the actor by phone to La Vanguardia.

He reveals that he became fond of watches after his father gave him one when he turned 18. "I kept it and only wore it on special occasions until I started having work commitments and had to wear it. I liked wearing a watch, but above all discovering the history of each model."

Eric Masip has a dozen watches, but the most special is one from the 1930s. "I was excited to wear a watch from a century ago that was submersible," he says. His dream is the Rolex Daytona Paul Newman "was auctioned 5 years ago for 17 million dollars", he adds.

Precisely Newman, together with Steve Mcqueen or Marlon Brando are Eric Masip's references in the world of interpretation. Also Christian Bale and the Spaniards Javier Bardem and Luis Zahera. But if there is someone he admires it is Enriqueta Borràs, his paternal grandmother dreamed of being an actress but her parents did not let her: "Someday I will put her in a film so she can fulfill her dream", says the grandson with love

Eric has been living in Madrid for 8 years, where he went to study acting. His parents always supported him, but his environment thought he would follow in his father's footsteps. "I played handball, but I got injured and that made it easier for me to dedicate myself to my passion, acting." And he adds that his favorite sport is tennis.

Masip is very reserved about his private life "I love it more that the public knows little about me so that they can see me better in the characters without conditioning". His next release will be the film Through the sea, on June 23 on Netflix, which is the continuation of Through my window and announces that there will be a third part. But the character that has given him popularity and marked him emotionally was that of Bruno Costa in Alba. “I think you can't play a character if it doesn't touch you emotionally. It was a tough shoot, but at the same time beautiful and inspiring, where all the actors had a great time. It was the story of a rape and it had to be told with all the rawness and with all the heart."

They have sometimes confused him with his father and called him Enric: "I am very proud of him, but we each have to chart our own path", he says. His, from Madrid, looks to Hollywood and also to Catalonia, where he travels once a month to see his family, and where he would like to shoot in Catalan again.
