The Government justifies the electoral advance of 23-J to "combat the reactionary wave"

Not a second of respite to recreate defeat, lick wounds or sink into depression. The socialist sector of the Government is once again in full combat readiness, and that is one of the invigorating effects of the advancement of the general elections for next July 23, which Pedro Sánchez called yesterday just a few hours after the scrutiny of the Municipal and regional ballot boxes on Sunday will certify the loss of most of the territorial power of the PSOE.

The government spokesperson, the Socialist Minister Isabel Rodríguez, has called on Tuesday to "combat the populisms that are devastating other countries around us and that the leader of the Popular Party has clearly assumed", in reference to Alberto Núñez Feijóo. "The right and the extreme right are now together, because the PP and Vox are the same, and we are going to work to combat this reactionary wave, of populism and denialism, which only seeks fear and hatred," he warned, in a interview in The Sixth. "Spanish society does not correspond to that extreme right and that right that Abascal and Feijóo represent," she insisted. "In the street, the feeling of hatred that they try to impregnate in each of their speeches does not prevail," she assured, and has defended coexistence, conciliation and diversity in the country.

The minister spokesperson, according to the new PSOE campaign script for 23-J, has raised the early general elections as an opportunity for citizens to choose between "advancing or going backwards." Isabel Rodríguez has denounced that Feijóo is limited to "copying the slogans" of Isabel Díaz Ayuso, who last Sunday already achieved an absolute majority in the Community of Madrid. Some slogans from the leader of the PP that, in her opinion, "simplify the political message and join Trumpism and Bolsonaro's speeches, and have nothing to offer this country."

The also Minister of Territorial Policy has assured that the objective of the President of the Government with this electoral advance is to "strengthen his position, because we are sure that there is a social majority that will demonstrate more forcefully on this occasion at the polls, which represents to an innovative Spain, which wants to combat climate change, to a feminist Spain and which is not going to resign itself to the fact that the ultra-right is free to reign in all the institutions of this country”. "You have to stop it at the polls," she warned. That is the reason, she has assured her, of the electoral call.

Isabel Rodríguez has admitted that the PSOE "has lost institutional power" in the municipal and regional elections last Sunday. "But that is as evident as that the PSOE is just three points behind the PP and therefore with a lot of room for recovery," she assured. She has also lamented the "segregation" in the space to the left of the PSOE, which has benefited the right. “You have to make a serious approach when you go to the polls. The PSOE is a strong, historical party, it has always been able to represent the social majority of this country and we are clear about the model of the country we want for the future and our role in Europe and in the world, and it is to combat these positions of the right and the extreme right that the PP and Vox represent ”, he assured.

"Spain is currently being ravaged by a wave of populism," he warned. "And it is what we are called to fight at the polls on July 23," she reiterated. "Of course we are going to fight," said the minister spokesperson.

Along with the discourse of fear of the ultra-right, Isabel Rodríguez has called for the mobilization of progressive voters: "There are still many people to mobilize," she has assured. A mobilization that, in any case, was insufficient on 28-M. "Surely we have needed a mobilization effort, a reaction, in the face of a threat that is there, which is serious, and we have seen it as in no other way in the expression of the ballot boxes in these municipal and regional elections", he admitted she.

The government spokesperson has thus urged to concentrate the leftist vote in the PSOE. “We are going to go to get majority positions and to concentrate the vote around the PSOE, because this is the party of majorities and progress. I expect greater strength for the PSOE, to have more strength to govern in the next legislature ”, she has settled.
