The Government denounces the insults to Vinícius and calls it "disgusting" that he discriminates based on skin color

"It is disgusting that someone is singled out or discriminated against because of their skin color." The Government has made this statement through its spokesperson, Patrícia Plaja, regarding the racist insults that the Real Madrid player Vinícius Júnior received on Sunday from some fans at Mestalla, during the match that his team played against Valencia C.F.

The Catalan Executive has extended its complaint and has not limited itself to the sports field: "In the schoolyard, on the street, on public transport, in a restaurant or a football field, it is just as reprehensible", Plaja assured , who has insisted that when these situations occur on a soccer field or on a basketball court "it is that there are thousands or millions of people who experience it or see it live."

That it has been, at least publicly, "shows that despite the fact that there are those who want to deny it, among us there continue to be racist people and behaviors that cannot be allowed and that must always be denounced", the spokeswoman considered.

For the Goverm, it cannot be normalized that people discriminate based on skin color or trivialize that there are those who do it. "In the world of sport, for too many years, unfortunately we have normalized behaviors that are not only racist but also homophobic and xenophobic," Plaja reiterated, while denouncing that not pointing out these attitudes and looking the other way "makes us accomplices."

Plaja highlighted that the Department of the Interior, with Joan Ignasi Elena, has launched various projects to eradicate racism in any field. In addition, he has appreciated that the Department of Equality and Feminisms, directed by Tània Verge, is also working to end inequalities and racism.
