The countdown is underway until November 27

Tomorrow Congress will hold the last session of the investiture debate of Alberto Núñez Feijóo, which will conclude with the second vote. Unlike the first vote, held yesterday, in which the candidate needed an absolute majority of votes, tomorrow a simple majority (more in favor than against) would be enough to be invested. The plenary session will begin at 12:15 p.m. and Feijóo will be able to intervene for a maximum of ten minutes, while the parliamentary groups will have five minutes to establish his position.

The vote cannot be held before 1:22 p.m., since 48 hours must pass from the first one. If Feijóo also fails in this second round - everything indicates that this will be the case - the president of Congress, Francina Armengol, will go to the Zarzuela - she plans to do so on Friday - to inform the King of the results of the votes. What is foreseeable is that the head of state will call next week a new round of consultations with the parliamentary groups, in which he will presumably make the assignment to the second most voted on 23-J, Pedro Sánchez, head of the PSOE list, after meeting with he.

Armengol will then return to the Zarzuela to learn about Felipe VI's decision. It is still unknown when this second investiture debate would be held. Calling it is the exclusive responsibility of the President of Congress, as stipulated by the regulations of the Chamber, which does not set deadlines for doing so. Armengol will announce the date, after speaking with Sánchez, as he did with Feijóo.

The limit is in November, since yesterday's vote – the first failed one – launched the two-month period provided for in Article 99 of the Constitution to achieve an investiture in this legislature. If Sánchez were to fail, on November 27 the King would have to dissolve the Cortes and call new elections.

These would be held 47 days later, that is, on January 14, according to the reform that was made to the electoral law in 2016 for cases of repetition of the elections, and the campaign, lasting only one week in that circumstance, would begin. night of January 5th.
