The Consell appeals to Valencian deputies to vote against the amnesty for dignity

The Valencian Government raises its tone and criticizes the negotiations for the investiture of Pedro Sánchez. This Friday, two days before the Valencian PP organizes a large national event against the amnesty in Valencia, the Consell de la Generalitat has approved an institutional declaration “in defense of equality among Spaniards” in which the “rejection” is expressed. "firm and energetic with the intention of agreeing on an Amnesty Law for the escaped politicians convicted of the secessionist attempts that occurred in Catalonia." The regional Executive believes that the future law “perpetrates the greatest act of political corruption by amnestying one politician to another expressly in exchange for their support to remain in power.”

For this reason, the Government chaired by Carlos Mazón alludes “to the responsibility and dignity of each of the deputies and senators who represent the Valencian Community in the Cortes Generales to vote against this attack on political pluralism, unity, equality and justice in Spain and that they freely decide how to exercise their vote.” A way to put pressure on the elected officials of the three Valencian constituencies to try to stop the approval of this regulation not yet presented.

The statement read this Friday by the spokesperson of the Consell, Ruth Merino, after the plenary session of the autonomous Government, insists on "declaring that those deputies who vote in favor of an amnesty Law will be responsible for an unprecedented rupture of basic constitutional values."

In this sense, the Generalitat expresses "the need for the governing bodies of the Cortes Generales to reject the processing of the Amnesty Law for being contrary to the unity of Spain, the equality of all Spaniards, our democracy, the Constitution and The rule of law".

The text does not spare its criticism of the PSOE's negotiations with "the nationalist forces and their separatist leaders" and points out that "after years of constant and concrete concessions to the separatist parties, the acting President of the Government has already publicly defended his decision to "perpetrating an unprecedented act of treason that seriously violates the Spanish Constitution and the equality of all Spaniards."

The statement describes the future Amnesty Law as “an unprecedented legal aberration in the Spanish legal system that would erase not only the sentences, but also the illegal conduct carried out by already convicted criminals.” Furthermore, it is considered that the initiative "seriously violates the principle of separation of powers, since the Courts are being deprived of prosecuting the alleged crimes committed by those granted amnesty."
