The ANC assures that independence "is closer" than is believed

The president of the Catalan National Assembly (ANC), Dolors Feliu, pointed out this Wednesday at an informative breakfast that the independence of Catalonia "is closer" than is believed. "Independence is closer than we think. It continues to be in the discourse, in the streets, in politics and in the imagination and discourse of the Spanish State," said the leader of the organization at the event organized by Nueva Economía Forum.

However, in that same colloquium, Feliu lamented that it seems that right now the objective of the independence negotiations with the PSOE "more than investing Pedro Sánchez is that the idea of independence be abandoned and that there is an accommodation of Catalonia within of the State and no longer talk about independence". "It is worrying because it seems that they are achieving it," added the president of the ANC.

For this reason, he has asked that there be "initiative" from the Parliament and "that the focus not be placed on the State." "That puts us in the accommodation framework of a sub-state entity," he pointed out in reference to the report that a group of experts prepared for the Government of Pere Aragonès on the clarity agreement, which uses those terms. In relation to the president's commitment to an agreed referendum, Feliu has highlighted that the Scottish route is "a screen that has already been explored" and has stressed that "unilaterality is the only way". "From here, we have to use it to act and we do not have to let ourselves be dragged by the mental framework that distances us from achieving independence ourselves," said Feliu, who believes that the clarity agreement leads to the framework of "accommodation." of a sub-state entity".

After exposing this context, with the expectation that there will be an amnesty, Feliu has demanded that the sovereigntist formations register "symbolic resolutions" in the Catalan Chamber on the sovereignty of the Parliament and its "commitment to 1-O." Another option that has been put on the table is for the independence groups to re-register the resolution of October 27, 2017 with the unilateral declaration of independence, which appeared in the preamble and not in the operative part and was never published in any official bulletin. and has advocated for other actions to reactivate the independence movement, such as holding plebiscite elections or a referendum to ratify 1-O.

Regarding the negotiation of the investiture, Feliu has expressed the opinion that perhaps "it would not be a bad idea" for the independence movement to have a blockade and repeat elections. In his opinion, if a similar result occurs, the pro-independence parties "can get better things out of the negotiation." A repeat election and blocking might not be a bad idea. What has happened now, that governance falls to the pro-independence parties, happens very often in the Congress of Deputies. Absolute majorities are not common," he explained.

"The Parliament must go to a crescendo, and that the streets respond and the mobilization heats up," he summarized. "There is not the enthusiasm of 2017, but we remember it and we know what it is and it is the seed. We are in a different time, 1-O was not effective, but perhaps now, with other feelings, more determined and not festive, we will finish it doing", he concluded.

Feliu was presented at the forum by the former first vice-president of the Parliament and ex-president of Junts per Catalunya, Josep Costa. The president of Junts, Laura Borràs, and the former president of the ANC and former general secretary of JxCat, Jordi Sànchez, also attended the event.
