Kilometer point 180 of the AP-7 motorway, at the height of Subirats, in the Penedès, is one of those black spots that are unfortunately well known to traffic officials. Two weekends ago there was a multiple crash; last weekend, another, and to prevent a third this Easter, the Catalan Traffic Service has decided to reduce the maximum speed from 120 to 100 km/h in the section between Martorell and Gelida.
This is a pilot test of reducing the speed along seven kilometers limited to Friday afternoons, Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons. It will be released starting today and depending on the results it will be permanently maintained on weekends, removed or intensified. "If 100 km/h doesn't work, we will go down to 80", says the director of the SCT, Ramon Lamiel. In addition, it is still mandatory to drive on the right for trucks.
The specific speed reduction in both directions between Martorell and Gelida is added to the measure that is already applied on a fixed basis in the central section of the AP-7, between Montornès del Vallès and Papiol. For the future, the Generalitat plans to incorporate the Mollet el Papiol variable speed system, which will allow it to be adapted to 100, 80 or whatever suits the needs of the moment, as is already done in other parts of the road network Catalan For later, between 2025 and 2027, there is the extension of the system on both sides of the central section, from Martorell to Vilafranca and from Mollet to Sant Celoni.
Patrols of the Mossos d'Esquadra will be responsible for ensuring compliance with this new measure that will be announced through the information panels.
Nor will they still penalize the road haulers already tendered and that Tránsit plans to deploy on the roads throughout this same year.
One of the first locations planned for this new system will be very close to the section with limited speed, at the Papiol bifurcation of the B-23, the A-2 and the AP-7.
