PP and Vox knock down the investigation into the fire in the Murcia nightclubs

The Regional Assembly of Murcia has ruled out investigating the causes of the fire that occurred in the Atalayas nightclubs in which 13 people died on October 1.

The Popular Party and Vox have rejected the proposal of the investigation commission, presented by the Mixed Group (Vamos), with 29 votes against, compared to 15 in favor from the opposition.

With the exception of the vice president of the Murcian Government, the far-right José Ángel Antelo, no member of the regional Executive has attended the plenary session. The popular president, Fernando López Miras, has not attended either.

Conservatives and far-rightists have justified their rejection on the basis that the highest legislative authority of the Community is not the appropriate place to investigate the tragedy. "The facts are already being investigated by the Prosecutor's Office, the police, the court and by the City Council itself," declared the popular spokesperson of the Assembly, María del Carmen Ruiz Jódar, who has assured that "it does not have the necessary powers." " and that the affected families "must know the whole truth." "We fully trust in justice," she said.
