Nacho Martín Blanco leaves Cs and heads towards the lists of the PP to Congress

After a few "intense and sad" weeks, Nacho Martín Blanco announced yesterday that he is resigning from his organic and institutional posts and leaving Ciudadanos, about whose future viability he is pessimistic. And in a hasty press conference, he explained his reasons, some "noble and lofty" and others "more prosaic."

The elections of May 28, which resulted in an unappealable defeat of the liberal project, made the spokesperson for Ciudadanos in Parliament lose all hope until yesterday, who after the call for the general elections did not want to "postpone more than necessary" a decision that his closest environment had been advising him, he said, for months.

"I am me and my circumstance, and if I don't save her, I don't save myself." Martín Blanco resorted to this phrase by Ortega y Gasset to explain that the disappointing results at the polls have plunged him into grief and that, unlike Carlos Carrizosa, whose tenacity he praised, he does not believe, although he hopes he is wrong, that Ciudadanos can continue the journey started in Catalonia in 2006.

"A party is an instrument", he reasoned to leave the door open to a rapprochement with the PP after having maintained his "loyalty" to Ciudadanos since 2017, when he was elected regional deputy. But the politician's commitment, he pointed out, quoting Max Weber this time, is with the citizenry and not with an acronym, for which he added that he will not leave “public life”.

This statement, when the PP finalizes the lists for the generals in the midst of enormous secrecy, had implications that a "prudent and discreet" parliamentarian, as he defined himself, could not ignore, but Martín Blanco did not want to give yesterday fueled "speculations" and preferred to wait until he could "speak with consistency."

However, his criticism of the "unmatched will to power" of Pedro Sánchez, aligned with the repeal of "sanchismo" advocated by Alberto Núñez Feijóo, indicates, various sources agree, that yesterday was a measured first step towards his incorporation into the candidacy of the PP for Barcelona to the Congress. Maybe not as a headliner, but in a prominent place.
