Madrid will present to the residents of Montecarmelo the new location of its two cantons

The Madrid City Council will meet next week with the neighborhood associations of the PAU of Montecarmelo to report on a plot, between the municipal cemetery of Fuencarral and the Colegio Alemán, to house two cleaning cantons whose relocation the municipal government promised to study.

Apparently, there is unrest among the residents of this PAU of Fuencarral-El Pardo after discovering that there will be a canton on a plot located near the M-40, next to the municipal cemetery of Fuencarral and the Colegio Alemán.

The delegate of Urban Planning, Environment and Mobility, Borja Carabante, assured this Tuesday that "it is the furthest point from any home in the PAU of Montecarmelo", and has defended the suitability of this enclave in which they will "predictably" be installed. two cleaning bases that had initially been proposed at the other end of the PAU, on the one hand, and in Arroyo del Fresno, on the other hand.

Carabante recalled that, under the new cleaning contracts, sixteen new cantons must be built in the city, and that the City Council was committed, "in agreement with the neighbors" and after complaints about the proximity of the facilities to the homes , to relocate four of them, including the two from Montecarmelo that, “predictably,” will be installed on the known plot this Monday.

Carabante has assured that the City Council has already spoken with the Alemán School, "one of the facilities close to this new cleaning facility", and has guaranteed that "over the next week" there will also be meetings with neighborhood associations to "explain to them the reasons for this location.”

“It is true that the news broke before we met with the neighbors because we had the first meeting with the German School and, from there, the information began to become known throughout the PAU, and, therefore, we have not had time to meet with the neighborhood associations in advance, which is what we wanted to do,” Carabante lamented.

And he added: “What are we going to do now, as we promised with the neighbors? Inform them, give them the plans, show them the project, tell them how access is going to be done, under what conditions, at what time, what is going to be done in that cleaning facility…”

“Because here, too, it is usually used to manipulate, deceive, and above all scare families by talking about landfills and waste management. There will not be any type of waste there because there is no waste management in those cantons,” the delegate insisted.

The department headed by Carabante insists that it has been concluded that the most appropriate space is the one located between the Fuencarral cemetery and the Alemán School because it is the plot “farthest away” from the homes, while insisting that “in no case waste treatment will be carried out in this infrastructure.”

This structure will be made up of "a base for the Selur and another for cleaning that will house changing rooms, offices, a workshop, warehouses, covered parking and garden areas plus two brine silos that will only be used in snow events," they add. sources from the area of Urban Planning, Environment and Mobility.

The same sources also refer to the “concern” of the neighbors and the school “about the possible impact of odor and vehicle traffic.”

“Regarding the first question, as has been said, waste will not be treated. Only vehicles will be parked and waste improperly abandoned by citizens along with containers (such as furniture or cardboard) will be transferred from one truck to another for transfer to the treatment plant,” the department insists.

And as far as traffic is concerned, they add, "there is a street between the school and the facility that will be a dead end that will only serve as access to the canton and the activity will occur in work shifts that, for the most part, are outside of school hours.

The vehicles “will be mostly ECO and Zero emissions; the asphalt pavement will be sound-absorbing; Reduced speed limits will be posted and a perimeter screen of trees will be placed to reduce any noise,” they continue.

Regarding the “visual impact” that also “concerns” the German School, the sources say that “the design is that of a modern, transparent building, with a façade and covered with a vegetal layer, with garden areas, terraces and outdoor areas.” .

Carabante has also criticized the double way of acting of the left on this matter, and has done so by contrasting this way of "scaring" families with the refusal of leftist groups to participate with the municipal government in meetings with the neighbors to relocate the cantons, with a recent response from the Ombudsman, Ángel Gabilondo, about another canton, in Ciudad Lineal.

And the La Nueva Elipa Neighborhood Association made a complaint to the Ombudsman about another facility on Trece Rosas Street, and the Ombudsman, “PSOE candidate for the Community of Madrid and, therefore, a distinguished socialist in this city and in this region", he answered that "the facilities of public services, specifically in the cantons, are essential", Carabante added.

“And, therefore, the mere complaint of the neighbors, says he (Ángel Gabilondo) cannot be a decisive element to relocate (the canton), but rather it has to be based on objective data and the technical and urban feasibility of the plot, technical and urban feasibility that this Montecarmelo plot does meet,” added the delegate.

Carabante, for whom the capital's left "only knows how to complain" and "criticize" the municipal government but "never makes a proactive policy," has asserted that the city Executive will "listen" to the "distinguished socialist Ángel Gabilondo": "And Therefore, we will make the best decision for all Madrid residents,” added the delegate of Urban Planning, Environment and Mobility.
