Laura Sánchez: "It is very important that your son likes you and my daughter likes me very well"

Laura Sánchez (Gross-Gerau, Germany, 1982), raised in Huelva since she was a baby, turned 42 on May 29 and a week later received her appointment in Sanlúcar (Cádiz) as a Dame of the Order of la Solear, created in 1979 by the brothers Toto and Juan Carlos Barbadillo in the winery of the same name. She is full of words: "I never imagined the amount of messages of affection and love I would receive for my birthday. I said to myself: 'Well, look, I'm sowing beautiful things, I must have done something right'. We will all die, that is to say that you have to enjoy life, be aware of it and make it easy for others".

This year will be the 25th year that she made her debut at Adlib and this edition, the 52nd of the oldest catwalk in Spain, is her second as a presenter. "I've been around the world a lot and I've never felt as at home as in Ibiza", explains this Andalusian wanderer who feels as comfortable in the steamy Tony Bonet design she's wearing in the image below as she does in the gypsy dress completely white that she chose for the April Fair: "I wanted to bet on Alicia Suárez, a 23-year-old designer with only two collections, because I really believe in new talents; classic designers have to put their batteries in front of what's coming”. Proof of this is the applauded proposals of the newcomers of Futur, Adlib's sister catwalk celebrated the night before.

In addition to the love of her daughter, Naia, and her husband, David Ascanio, the pillars of Laura Sánchez's life are exercise, nutrition and a healthy mind. Her friend Gloria Morales, creator of the famous Ballet Fit, is in charge of the first pillar, and she takes care of the rest herself: "I don't want to look younger but to be comfortable with my age. And I like to take care of my head more than my body; in fact, my physical training is more for that: it's my time, my time. Good nutrition is not a diet but eating very well, healthy and avoiding the consumption of processed foods, and finally being aware and really enjoying everything".

Today he is even more aware of it than ever after he was diagnosed with diabetes in 2021. He made it public and put himself in charge. “My body has spoken; in general, we must listen to him. Today I have to carry more stuff in my suitcase: insulin, tablets, sensors, the fridge... And spare parts of everything. Look, I'm wearing two sensors on my arms today. I say it's the router or the home button (laughter), but it measures blood glucose and it's our lifesaver. Diabetes makes you your own doctor and you have to constantly decide: I can eat whatever, as long as I supplement it with my dose of insulin. But this dose is not always the same. And if I drive, I might have hypoglycemia. That's what I mean, you have to make decisions at all times."

On Tuesday the 13th she turned 14 with musician David Ascanio, and on June 29th they will be married for five years. "He is an ideal partner, because we have grown up together, and we enjoy this stability of the couple. Even though I've only seen it five times this month!” Their respective professions force them to travel a lot and yearn for reunion. "Which is wonderful, but don't think it's like a teenager (laughs). Sometimes it only gives us time to eat together because the other is taking a flight to I don't know where".

Laura is the mother of 17-year-old Naia, of whom she is extremely proud: "She's a good person, educated and, what's more, I like her very well, it's very important that your child likes you. My daughter likes me very well and I tell her. And this is very important".
