Getafe finalizes the launch of a municipal dentist service for vulnerable families

The Getafe City Council has approved in the local Government Board the bases to carry out the selection process of the professionals who will provide the municipal dentist service, a "pioneering" initiative that "will especially serve the most vulnerable people" Township.

With this procedure, and after the acquisition and installation of the necessary furniture and machinery, the municipal government, formed by PSOE and Podemos, is "ever closer to the implementation of this important public policy for the residents of the city." ", the Consistory has highlighted in a note.

"Oral health is a fundamental element for the well-being of society, which is why we are pioneers in addressing it comprehensively, from which we hope the rest of the public administrations will take an example," insisted the Councilor for Health, Alba Leo, the main promoter. of the initiative.

Leo explained that this service will serve "in a special way" the most vulnerable people: people over 65 years of age; those over 55 years of age who are unemployed; minors; people with functional diversity; large families; women victims of gender violence or people in treatment for addictions, among others.

In its portfolio of services, the municipal dentist will include dental cleanings, fillings or root canals, although cases that cannot be resolved from this municipal service will be referred.

For those cases in which the necessary treatments cannot be attended to by the municipal service, the City Council is in the process of developing an agreement with the Complutense University of Madrid, in order to refer these cases to the Complutense University Dental Clinic (COUC).

In addition to dental treatments, the program proposes the development of a complete Plan to promote and promote oral health in children and adolescents and in vulnerable populations, which includes, among other actions, preventive workshops in schools and institutes or preventive check-ups and diagnoses.
