The Ripoll City Council, governed since 28M by the ultra-right-wing independence party Aliança Catalana, has reported on Tuesday the delivery to the National Police of an immigrant in an irregular situation for his expulsion with the consequent controversy on social networks.
While the mayor Sílvia Orriols pointed out in this regard on her personal Twitter profile that "entering illegally is a crime" and that "consenting is generating a pull effect that can have serious economic and cultural consequences", the CUP councilor Dani Vilaseca described the publication of the "disgusting" consistory.
The council's tweet, accompanied by a photo, explains that "the Ripoll Local Police have located a person sleeping in the Devesa del Pla area" and that he has stated "that he is in an irregular situation".
"The agents have contacted the National Police Force, which, once the checks have been made, has taken him away to open an expulsion file," he adds.
Sílvia Orriols, between criticism and messages of support on social networks, has stated that those who accuse the Ripoll City Council of "fascism for wanting to bring order to the lack of immigration control" should also do so with the rest of the countries because they all regulate immigration.
The activist Mohamed El Amrani, Social Prize winner from the Princess of Girona Foundation, has also spoken out against it and has described the Ripoll City Council's tweet as "vomiting, worrying, shameful". "We are facing a flagrant attack on dignity and human rights," adds El Amrani.
The CUP has requested a motion of no confidence in Ripoll. "Not one more day can go by without the extreme right being evicted from the Ripoll City Council. The motion of no confidence in Orriols is a democratic urgency. Not one more day with the extreme right expelling women, not one more day patrimonializing the City Council to rule against the people," the CUP said.
