Collboni's alternative to Colau's super block: 30 new block interiors

Some time ago, even before Jaume Collboni left the municipal government to dedicate himself exclusively to the campaign for the May 28 elections, the Socialists distanced themselves from the superblock project and the green axes promoted by the commons and by the Mayor Ada Colau. Today, the socialist candidate for mayor of Barcelona has reiterated his alternative to the green proposal of those who were his government partners. Collboni has promised that if he wins the elections on May 28, he will launch a recovery plan for up to 30 Eixample block interiors.

For this purpose, which according to the socialist mayor will multiply urban greenery, but facilitating economic activity and without impairing mobility, he has committed to allocate an investment of 171 million euros over eight years.

As Collboni explained, accompanied by number three on his list and current deputy mayor, Laia Bonet, the PSC, which began promoting the formula for block interiors at the time of mayor Pasqual Maragall, will reform 15 new spaces of these characteristics. The other 15 will be the result of agreements with owners and neighborhood communities.

The commitment for the next mandate, until 2027, is an initial investment of 50 million euros. Later, in the following municipal mandate, 85 million euros would be added, in addition to another 36 million for the urbanization of the spaces.

"We would gain public green space equivalent to 90,000 square meters while respecting the Cerdà plot and guaranteeing mobility", Jaume Collboni assured.

In addition to the conquest of new interior gardens, the socialist candidate has promised to improve the conditions of the 45 already existing ones. Its preservation would be endowed with a budget item of another five million euros, explained Laia Bonet.

Jaume Collboni has also proposed "increasing public space and tearing down the wall of the old Modelo prison to gain space in the Escola Industrial". In this way, 16,000 more square meters of green and public space could be gained”.

"We must reduce pollution, the noise of the city, improve public transport and increase electric charging points," said the head of the PSC list, but the priority is to "verify" the interiors of the blocks, turn them into safe and well-perimetered spaces and facilitate economic activity in their surroundings.
