Colau would win in Barcelona with a very slight advantage over Collboni, according to exit polls

After an intense electoral campaign, the die is cast. The people of Barcelona have chosen their future mayor today in elections that, if the polls are met, will be one of the most disputed in the history of the city. The victory could be decided by a minimum difference of a few votes and the winner will not necessarily be the person in charge of governing pending the post-electoral pacts that could be made in the coming days.

According to the exit poll by TV3 and Catalunya Ràdio prepared by Gad-3, the BComú candidate, Ada Colau, would win the elections in the Catalan capital with 10 councilors with a very slight advantage over the socialist Jaume Collboni who would obtain between 9 and 10 councilors, followed by Xavier Trias between 9 and 8, the Republican Ernest Maragall with 6, the popular Daniel Sirera with 4 and the ultra-right party Vox would enter the Barcelona City Council for the first time with 3 councillors.

In the last municipal elections the result was already very close. The force with the most votes was that of the Republican Ernest Maragall with 10 councilors, the same as Colau, re-elected with the support of the votes of Manuel Valls. The difference between the two was 4,696 votes. (ERC 161,189 and BComú 156,493). After the Republicans and the Commons, the formation with the most support was the PSC with 8 councillors, BCN pel Canvi-Cs with 6, Junts with 5 and the PP with 2.

It should be noted that since the Transition no mayor has achieved an absolute majority despite the hegemony of the socialist governments with Narcís Serra, Pasqual Maragall, Joan Clos and Jordi Hereu, from 1979 to 2011, the year in which the convergent Xavier Trias broke this dominance Socialist when he proclaimed himself mayor and could not repeat as mayor in 2015, when Colau reached the mayoral rod and revalidated his mandate four years later. After the elections another mystery opens: the post-electoral alliances. A kind of second round that will become official with the constitution of the City Council on June 17.

The TV3 and Catalunya Ràdio poll offers very similar results to the one published at the closing of the polling stations by Betevé and El Periódico, with Colau with 10-11 councillors, Trias 9-10, Collboni 9-10, ERC 6-7, PP 2-3 and Vox 2-3

This May 28, nearly 1.2 million Barcelonans were called to the polls. Participation reached 66.2% in 2019, 6.4% more than in 2015. In the Catalan capital at 6:00 p.m., 48.66% of voters had voted, 3.32% less than four years ago.
