Cheney announces that the Jan. 6 panel will provide new information on attack

WASHINGTON -- A House panel investigating Jan. Rep. Liz Cheney (Republican from Wyoming) said that the House panel investigating the Jan. 6 attack on U.S. Capitol would reveal more details and make recommendations about legislation and criminal sanctions for officials who fail to perform their duties.

"Our first priority should be to make recommendations," Cheney said Sunday on NBC's Meet the Press. He is one of two Republicans who sits on the nine person select committee. "We are looking at whether we should have additional criminal penalties for the type of supreme dereliction-of-duty that President Trump displayed when he refused the mob's request to leave the Capitol after he provoked the attack.

"So there will also be legislative recommendations and new information."

The hearings will be held this spring by the committee that has been interviewing witnesses for many months.

Cheney of Illinois and Adam Kinzinger from Illinois were the other Republicans on the committee who voted for Trump's impeachment.

Cheney stated that being on the panel only strengthened her concerns about what happened on that day.

She stated that she has not learned anything since joining the committee. "I have never been more concerned or worried about the gravity and the actions of President Trump, which he also took when the attack was ongoing," she said.
