Catalan Civil Society denounces "threatening graffiti" during its annual assembly

Societat Civil Catalana (SCC) has issued a statement of complaint this Saturday after the appearance of insulting graffiti in the place where the constitutionalist entity, chaired by Elda Mata Miró-Sans, celebrates its annual assembly of members.

SCC, which played a very active role during the zenith of the independence process and organized the massive demonstration against the independence of Catalonia on October 8, 2017 in Barcelona, points out that this meeting "has been disrupted by the appearance of some threatening graffiti " on the walls of the Tomasa Cuevas civic center, in the Les Corts neighborhood, where the annual meeting between the members of the entity has been held.

In the graffiti, one can read phrases such as "Fora feixistes dels nostres barris", "FCK SCC" -initials formed from the consonants of the English verb fuck, which is used as a degrading insult- and "Tomasa Cuevas era de les nostres" .

"The radicals put SCC back on target, making it clear that, as we have been denouncing, in Catalonia the situation has not been normalized and there is no freedom of expression for all Catalans," denounces the entity in the statement, signed by its president.

Mata also indicates that "the only thing that coercion and threats demonstrate is the need for a firm voice of citizens in favor of the rights and freedoms of all equally." "We will not give in to the blackmail of fear," concludes the president of SCC.
