Call for 161 million to build 3,100 homes

The Department of Territory of the Generalitat will open today the call for aid worth 161 million euros for the construction of 3,116 social rental homes spread over 82 actions in 38 Catalan municipalities. Priority is given to actions previously selected from the program of aid for the construction of energetically efficient homes from the Next Generation funds.

The Councilor of Territories, Juli Fernández, has emphasized that these grants are "another step to progress in the construction of an affordable, permanent and sufficient rental park". The subsidies will be up to 700 euros/m2 up to a maximum of 50,000 euros per home built. The homes must be built in June 2026.

The majority of the 82 actions are concentrated in the metropolitan area of Barcelona, specifically 45 (which add up to 1,910 homes), followed by the Vegueria de Girona, with 10 actions and 270 homes. In Central Catalonia, 7 actions have been planned (192 homes), in Penedès 9 (333 homes), in Lleida 7 (175 homes), in Tarragona two (208 homes) and in Terres de l'Ebre two more (28) .

The promoters of the selected projects who are owners of the land or the right to build will have five months to present the application and the corresponding documentation.

Among the scoring criteria, it was taken into account if the actions were located in municipalities declared as areas of strong and accredited demand, or if they reserved more than 25% of the promotion for under 35s or for cases to deal with emergencies, people with intellectual disabilities, groups at risk of social exclusion, over 65s, refugees or dependents, among others.

According to the Department of the Territory, the initially planned figure of 3,116 homes may vary and increase with actions that are now on the waiting list and depending on the amounts that are being specified for each case.

One of the requirements of the call is that the homes must be built by June 2026 at the latest. They will be flats that will have the official protection regime of an indefinite nature and will have to be allocated for rent or transfer of use to citizens with low incomes.
