Better lighting, guard rails needed on Route 33 | Letter

I'm responding to the Feb. 27 article, "Lights out on Rt. 378 in Bethlehem: Has anyone noticed?"

PennDOT spokesman Ron Young commented, "PennDOT does not light whole highways, but will light interchange areas on interstates/expressways."

In my opinion PennDOT should review other areas that lack lighting to protect the public, such as the traffic light at the interchange at Routes 248 and 33 south.

What happened in Wind Gap when the Route 33 interchange project was completed in 2015? It seems there is a real lack of lighting on the northbound Wind Gap exit.

I've also mentioned to my family that the retention pond on the southbound Route 33 ramp at Wind Gap is unprotected. Someday a tragedy will happen and prompt officials to add guardrails to prevent automobiles from leaving the roadway and ending up in this body of water.

There is no excuse for leaving this project in the condition it was finished other than to save money and not improve the overall safety of the ramps. In many communities these retention ponds exist and are protected with fencing.
