Attorney General Merrick Garland will be watching the House hearings in the days leading up to Jan. 6, 2021 aEUR", as well as the Justice Department lawyers who are prosecuting cases related the attack on Capitol.

"I'm watching, and I will be monitoring all hearings. Although I might not be able live to see all of it, I will be there. But I can assure you that I will be there to watch all of it. Garland stated that the January 6 prosecutors were also watching the hearings. He spoke at a press conference regarding a separate enforcement action.

Garland stated that he would not be able "to give my own personal responses" to the evidence coming out of this month's hearings by the committee, since he doesn't comment on ongoing investigations.

On Monday, the House Select committee was holding its second hearing on Capitol siege of Jan. 6, 2021. It argued that former President Donald Trump used a seven-part strategy, including whipping up supporters, to stay in office after the 2020 election.

Vice Chair Liz Cheney called for more prosecutions at the Justice Department. There has been pressure from Democrats and activists for months to indict Trump for the insurrection. There have been questions about whether Trump can be prosecuted or if he could be charged with the riot, even if Trump was not present on Capitol grounds.

Garland stated, "We are proceeding with full urgency and respect, as we've often said, to hold every perpetrator who is criminally responsible Jan. 6, regardless of their position or level, and regardless of whether or not they were present at Jan. 6 events," "We will just follow the facts wherever they lead."

Authorities have already charged 840 people. They are also investigating the backers of the political rallies that preceded and followed the attack on the Capitol.
