A La Gomera Court investigates possible fraudulent votes

A Canarian Court has opened investigative proceedings for alleged irregularities in the processing of voting by mail in La Gomera after a private complaint, according to legal sources.

The complainant made two movements, go to a Court and in turn to the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, which opened some proceedings until he learned that they were already open in court and therefore he has filed his own.

This supposed irregularity was denounced, asking the complainant that the votes by mail be annulled as a precaution. The Court has denied this request and continues to investigate, without the investigation being directed against any person to date.

The complaint concerns about twenty digital certificates for the alleged issuance by the Cabildo from its dependencies of the vote by mail of as many individuals; in some cases, indicates the aforementioned media, without the interested citizens being present.

Sources from the Cabildo de La Gomera consulted by EFE indicate that the corporation has no record of these proceedings and added that the institution has been processing digital certificates since 2018 and, once issued, "we do not know the use made of it" by its holders.

The Cabildo de La Gomera has been governed since 1991 by Casimiro Curbelo, first with the PSOE and then with the party he founded in 2015, Agrupación Socialista Gomera (ASG).

In the last regional elections, this formation obtained three seats in the Parliament of the Canary Islands, which were decisive for the configuration of the so-called Pact of Flowers, which has governed the islands for these four years, and which is completed by PSOE, Nueva Canarias and Sí Podemos Canarias. .
