The former NFL star Charles Rogers died on Monday - he was just 38 years old.

Rogers was a true star, as the 22-year-old wide receiver in 2003 was awarded as the number two after two impressive seasons with Michigan State Spartans which are one of the biggest college teams in the UNITED states.

When Rogers was a local boy, he was therefore an obvious choice for the Detroit Lions, who selected him early in 2003.

He started when his NFL career with the lightning and the thunder, when he the same year in the first five matches, scored two touchdowns and ran 243 yards.

Unfortunately broke he collarbone, which put an end to his rookie season.

In the very first match after the summer break! he broke it again the collarbone and got disenchanted allowed to go home to recover rather than to be at the Lions' medical staff.

When he came back the next season, he was undamaged, but had developed a drug addiction. It resulted in three positive samples, which ultimately cost him his contract with the Detroit Lions.

Although he tried with several other teams, he was never to play in the NFL again.

He had big problems in private life, where he since highschool-the time reached to be the father of eight children with four different women. Several times he was on the edge of the law, and he had trouble keeping away from the drugs.

It was, however, not substances, in each case directly took the life of the hem.

In his last days he struggled with cancer and problems with his liver and he was in hospital waiting for a liver transplant when he died.

Lokalmediet Michigan Live has spoken with two of Rogers' former coaches from Saginaw High, confirming the deaths and the cause.

- He had cancer, but whether it was related to his liver, I don't know.

They had given him 30 days to live, if he not got a levertransplantaion, says Saginaw Highs earlier basketballtræner Marshall Thomas.

Rogers' football coach from back then, Don Durrett, was in contact with Charles Rogers shortly before his death.

I called his mother in the hospital over the weekend and got to talk with Charles.

he said He was on his way to God, says Don Durrett.

Charles Rogers continues to have record for most touchdowns in Michigan State Spartans history. 27 it was in 24 matches.
