Today, La Pedrera was the scene of the official presentation of the equestrian obstacle La Rosa y el Libro, winner of the 8th Edition of the A Leap for the City Contest, which consists of designing an obstacle for the CSIO Barcelona, the equestrian event par excellence.

The Diada de Sant Jordi and the well-known sculptor Jaume Plensa have been the source of inspiration for La Rosa y el Libro. The design is a clear tribute to the city of Barcelona, culture and love.

The letters, present in the obstacle, are based on the poem Visca Sant Jordi!, by Lola Casas, and with a clear reference to the sculptor they are transformed until two red roses are raised, one on each side of the structure.

“We wanted to represent the strength that letters have to form words, texts and stories to connect us,” say the winners of the contest, Andrea Álvarez, Cecilia Barrios and Renata Garcés, students at the LCI Barcelona design school.

La Rosa y el Libro will be part of the different routes of the 110th edition of CSIO Barcelona, the oldest international sporting event in Spain, which will take place from September 29 to October 2 at the Real Club de Polo facilities.

Organized by the Barcelona Equestrian Challenge in collaboration with LCI Barcelona, this action aims to continue strengthening the existing link between the centenary sports competition of the Real Club de Polo de Barcelona (RCPB), as well as the international promotion of the city.

Emilio Zegrí, president of the RCPB Foundation, has assured, “from the Foundation of the Real Club de Polo de Barcelona we are dedicated to promoting culture by supporting young talents from the world of design and we aim to place Barcelona in the spotlight international”.

In addition, the event had the institutional presence of Aleix Villatoro, director of the Catalan Sports Council of the Generalitat de Catalunya, David Escudé, sports councilor of the Barcelona City Council, Gabriel Arranz, director of Promotion and Sports Events of the Barcelona Sports Institute of Barcelona City Council, Santiago Mercé, president of CSIO Barcelona, Daniel Garcia Giró, director of CSIO Barcelona, and the authors of the project, Andrea Álvarez, Cecilia Barrios and Renata Garcés.

The director of the Consell Català de l’Esport, Aleix Villatoro, has remarked that “110 years are very respectable figures, and the initiative to make an obstacle related to Catalan culture so that Barcelona can be recognized in the world, is excellent.”

On the other hand, the Councilor for Sports, David Escudé, declared: “The obstacle adds tradition, sensitivity and to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the RCPB there is no better way than to do it with a symbol as ours as the rose and the book”. He has ended by reiterating the support of the administrations so that the city can host world sporting events like this one and, in this way, put Barcelona on everyone’s lips.

For the ninth consecutive year, the CSIO Barcelona will host from September 29 to October 2 the Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup Grand World Final, the most important equestrian event on the international equestrian calendar at the Real Club de Polo de Barcelona. In addition, the CSIO Barcelona once again presents the PoloPark, a recreational space, full of creative experiences, new trends, shows, gastronomy and entertainment activities for all audiences.
