Last Sunday, Paris’s iconic Champs-Elysees was transformed into a huge picnic, with approximately 4,000 people enjoying an outdoor meal under sunny skies. This unique event brought together participants who were chosen through a lottery.

The picnic baskets, created by top Parisian chefs, included a variety of delicacies such as puff pastries and innovative sandwiches. The food was prepared in eight temporary kitchens located along the avenue. Contributions came from establishments such as the prestigious Fouquet’s or the famous fast food company McDonald’s.

From the Arc de Triomphe to George V Avenue, a 216-meter tablecloth served as a dining area, covering a total area of 4,212 square meters and was made with 100% recycled fibers. All this, with the aim of showing the commitment to sustainability on the part of the event organizers.

Mayor Anne Hidalgo made an appearance to mingle with attendees, highlighting the importance of this type of community events. The Champs-Elysées Committee, known for organizing large public meetings, has carried out a series of activities.

For example, an open-air film screening was organized or, as a novelty, the largest dictation competition in the world was held. This picnic marks another memorable moment in the buildup to the Summer Olympics that begin in Paris in two months.
