The animal rights organization Som la seva veu de la Garrotxa (Girona) has reported five cases of animal abuse of cats in the region, in just fifteen days. Four ended up dying and in some cases in especially “cruel” circumstances, according to the entity.
The first two deceased animals appeared on Tuesday, January 30. A girl who was walking with her dog in an area near the Fluvià river in Olot found a cat burned in a frying pan and another hanging by a zip tie on a fence. She immediately notified the entity that she contacted the Municipal Police of the capital of La Garrotxa, which has already opened an investigation to try to find those responsible for the events.
A week later it was in the neighboring town of Les Preses where two cats were found poisoned and dead in the middle of a field.
The member of Som la seva veu, Carme Sánchez, explains that they immediately became suspicious when they saw the two animals in the middle of a field, since when a cat is sick it hides to die alone and apart.
Again, Som la seva veu took charge of the felines and reported the events. The last case of abuse was detected last Wednesday, February 14. On this occasion it was in the Campdenmàs square in Olot – in the center of the city – where a man was beating a feline and some witnesses alerted the police. An agent arrived immediately and found the animal badly injured next to a container.
It was then that he looked inside and found utensils to care for the cat, such as a litter box or food. The animal managed to survive, and the entity took it to the veterinarian to treat its wounds.
From Som la seva they assume that this is a case of abandonment but also of abuse. Once he has recovered he will be put up for adoption.
The entity asks that anyone contact them or the police if they suspect any case of abuse and acknowledge that they are “concerned” because they have never seen such cases of abuse before.
Ánchez considers this mistreatment as “acts of a psychopath” and alerts neighbors who have domestic cats to be attentive when they open the door of their house, so that it does not escape.
