Up to 18 Catalan counties, in red level due to very high risk of fire

The Rural Agents of the Generalitat have activated level 2 of the Alpha Plan this Saturday due to the very high risk of forest fire in 18 Catalan regions, which has led to the suspension of 11,942 risk activities planned for today Saturday.

Agents have informed that the red alert affects the regions of Segrià, Garrigues, Terra Alta, Ribera d'Ebre, Priorat, Baix Ebre, Baix Camp, Conca de Barberà, Alt Camp, Tarragonès, Baix y Alt Penedès, Anoia, Garraf, Bages, Baix Llobregat, Vallès Occidental and Moianès.

The rest of the territory of Catalonia is in yellow level, due to moderate risk of fire, with the exception of five counties in Girona (Garrotxa, Pla d'Estany, Selva, Gironès, and Baix Empordà) and one in Lleida (Pla d'Urgell ).

The Agents remember that declaring the red level of fire risk implies that Civil Protection activates the INFOCAT plan, the special emergency plan for forest fires.

The red level of fire risk implies that certain activities likely to cause forest fires are prohibited or registered, such as lighting bonfires, outdoor sports activities, forestry work or agricultural activities, use of barbecues in rest or recreation areas and, if applicable, restrict access to the main mountain ranges.

The Rural Agents and Civil Protection have asked the public this Saturday that, in this scenario, they take extreme precautions in activities that could cause a forest fire.
